XLRI GMP Program Overview

The XLRI(GMP ( General Management Programme ) caters to the need for aspirants with more than 5 years of work experience in managerial capacity. It is the full time, residential and flagship programme of XLRI Jamshedpur. XLRI GMP batch comprises of seasoned professionals, from entrepreneurs to doctors and scientists, chartered accountants, bankers, and healthcare professionals. The unique nature of this programme is due to XLRI’s proficiency in management education and the hands on experience brought in by participants chosen after a rigorous admission procedure.

Pedagogy
The robust curriculum imparts all essential management tools while keeping the participants abreast with the latest trends in management education with the flexibility to specialize in area of their choice. Teaching methods include case studies, group assignments and independent field work with special emphasis on team–based learning. Simulated strategy games and exposure to real world problems enable students to understand, appreciate and imbibe decision making through business finance, cross functional alignment and competitive analysis.

Academic Curriculum
The MBA programme is divided into 4 semesters. The first two semesters are common for all the candidates and remaining two includes electives, project works and international immersion programme.

Subjects which are covered under first two terms are:

Term 1:
Managerial communications, Marketing Management-1, Quantitative Techniques for Decision making, Organizational Behaviour, Managerial Economics, Financial Accounting and Business Ethics.

Term 2:
Strategy, Financial Management, Legal Environment of Business, Managing Information Systems, Human Resource Management, Production and Operations Management, Optimization models for Decision Making.

Term 3 and Term 4:
XLRI GMP offers a rich and varied choice of over 56 electives for candidates to choose from including topics such as "Building Business in China", "Mergers, Acquisitions, Alliances & Corporate Strategy", "Private Equity Finance" and "Market Driving Strategies".

Non Academic Curriculum:

Leadership & Adventure
The XLRI GMP program will strengthen candidates’ belief in team work and would leave an everlasting impact. The philosophy of stretching beyond the limit is what XLRI inculcates. XLRI's methodology of teaching which is about reinventing oneself continuously is put to practice in this one year program.

Rural Exposure
As a part of GMP programme students have to stay for a few days in a village to identify the problems of the people of a village and then suggest solutions.

International Immersion

International immersion is an exciting & enriching part of XLRI GMP Program. Groups of students travel to different geographical locations across the globe. The 21 day long program focuses on making students aware about the business practices and cultures in these countries as well as giving them a chance to execute a project for different organizations there. For example, one of the groups in past years went to AIM Manila and participated in round table conference hosted by Asian Development Bank.

Eligibility

A candidate applying to XLRI GMP program must

  • Hold a minimum of three years Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University in India/abroad in any discipline.
  • Be employed in a full-time job, with at least five years ( 60 calender months)  of relevant experience as on March 31, 2013 post graduation

Application Process

Candidates can apply either through XAT or GMAT Score. Here are the stages of the application process:

Stage 1: Applying through GMAT
Candidates must take their GMAT between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2012 and  submit a DD of Rs 1050  (or a DD/ Banker’s cheque of US$ 50 for NRI applicants) in favor of " XLRI Jamshedpur A/c Prospectus " payable at Jamshedpur.

Candidates should then complete online registration by providing following details

  • GMAT ID / XAT ID
  • GMAT Score / XAT Score
  • GMAT Date
  • Demand Draft Details

Download XLRI PP GMAT / XAT Form. Send duly filled form to following address latest by: December 29, 2012. The candidates should write "Admissions through GMAT" on the envelopes.

Stage 2: Announcement of selected candidates
List of shortlisted candidates will be declared by mid of January 2013.

Stage 3: Interview Process
The interviews will be conducted during 17-23 January 2013 in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Jamshedpur only.

Stage 4: Result Announcement
Candidates selected after interview will be informed via mail along with an offer letter by end of March 2013.

Fees

XLRI GMP course fee is approximately Rs. 14.5 lacs (excl service tax) for single accommodation and Rs 15.15 lacs for family accommodation. The fee includes mess charges

Placements

111 out of 120 students from the class graduating in May 2011 participated in the placement drive. The experience range of the batch was between 5 years to 16 years with an average of 6.4 years. 80% of previous recruiters returned to recruit this year as well.

The rolling placements started in December 2010, followed by placement drives at Bangalore and Mumbai. The base salary offered thus year saw an increase of 20% with respect to the base salary to the previous batch. The number of students receiving other guaranteed benefits and signing bonus increased by 15% and average signing bonus increased by 23%.

The highest salary offered this year was Rs. 30 lacs, while the average was Rs. 16.21 lacs.
The number of international offers increased by 50% and comprised of 10% of the total offers accepted by the students.

Most of the roles offered were at senior and middle management levels.
