Short Answers
Please answer each of the four questions below with a short paragraph of no more than 150 words. This is an opportunity to distill your core ideas, values, goals and motivations into a set of snapshots that help tell us who you are, where you are headed, and why. (150 words maximum per question)

1. What are your professional goals immediately after you receive your MBA?

Tips: This is more like a short term goal essay question in which you have to concisely talk about your goals just after completing MBA. As the word limit is restricted to 150 words, you better come to the point straightway. If you have a preset target and you think that  getting a MBA will immediately reach you there, then articulate that and if you don’t have any such an objective, then give an explanation for that as well.

2. What are your long-term career aspirations?

Tips:  After you discussed your short term goals, you have quite naturally been asked to unfold your actual dream. Where you want to land 5 or 10 years after this MBA is something that you are expected to reveal here. You can add a brief touch of career overview to make this answer sound more realistic and genuine.

3. Why are you choosing to pursue an MBA and why now? (If you plan to use your MBA experience to make a significant change in the field or nature of your career, please tell us what you have done to prepare for this transition.)

Tips:  This one also can be answered as a continuation of the previous one. If a MBA degree can add to your present career status, then communicate that to justify your decision for a MBA at this point. Again make short and snappy and related to your overall professional and academic career graph.

4. The intentions of our students to engage in a broad-minded business school community and to connect to an eminent and purposeful university greatly influences the Yale MBA experience. How do you plan to be involved in the Yale SOM and greater Yale communities?

Personal Statements
Choose two (2) of the following topics and answer them in essay form. Please indicate the topic numbers at the beginning of your essays. (500 words maximum per essay)

Tips:  The admission committee wants to judge whether you have some leadership materials within you. So, these two essays are great chances for you to show that if nurtured rightly you can be a good leader. Choose two that you think will best display the true essence your persona.

1. What achievement are you most proud of and why?

Tips:  Do you really think you have an achievement that needs to be expressed? If ‘yes’, then use this essay as a means to reveal that. As not categorized specifically, you can talk about any instance from your personal, professional or academic life but make sure that the story can throw light on some of your qualities which give the adcom strong reason to select you out of the lot.

2. What is the most difficult feedback you have received from another person or the most significant weakness you have perceived in yourself? What steps have you taken to address it and how will business school contribute to this process?

Tips:  Real leaders are open to constructive criticism. They learn from their mistakes. Do you have that in you? This is your scope to convey that. While choosing a story, keep in mind that it should have potential to fulfill all queries of the question, like it should have certain aspects that can be best rectified in a business school.

3. Imagine yourself meeting your learning team members for the first time in Orientation.  What is the most important thing your teammates should know about you?

4. For Reapplicants (answer this topic plus one (1) of the other topics): What steps have you taken to improve your candidacy since your last application?
Tips:  This essay is a chance for the re-applicants to show that they are far better prepared than previous year. Talk about your previous drawbacks and provide maximum words for describing the steps you took to improve your candidacy.
